Student’s in a Pinch

Short Term Rentals Boston provides quality furnished apartment rentals throughout the City of Boston.  Our goal is to work with our clients to secure quality, all-inclusive furnished housing near their schools, jobs, hospitals, friends, and families. Throughout the City of Boston, students in particular are having a difficult time finding suitable housing.   Last semester, we had the pleasure of working with three Northeastern students who were looking for a semester long lease. According to the students we’ve served, the biggest and most common roadblock for student housing is that most landlords require a 12 month lease commitment from tenants.  In this case, we were happy to help this group, by accommodating them in one of our 3 bedroom units located in a lovely neighborhood in the South End. One student wrote a note about her experience:

“As a group of students who needed to find short term housing, this apartment fit our needs perfectly. We did not want to split up or be forced to sign a year long lease and have to worry about subletting, which is when we stumbled upon Short Term Rentals Boston. The apartment is located within a 10 minute walk to campus, and less than a five minute walk to the nearest T-stop. Parking is free and accessible for non-resident cars on the surrounding streets and many great eateries are just down the street, making this a great location for Northeastern students to live. We were pleased with the amenities that came with the apartment such as a fully-loaded kitchen with all necessary appliances and an outdoor patio area with a working grill. If we ever had a problem, management made sure to send someone to fix it at whatever time fit our hectic schedules. Additionally, having the apartment already fully furnished made move in and move out very easy, and made our stay very comfortable. Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay with Short Term Rentals Boston as it was cozy, pleasant and very convenient.”

Short-term rentals make personal and business travel easier, better.

Everywhere you look in Boston you see cranes, new construction, parks being built and renovated, new stores and restaurants opening and public transit improvements happening. Seaport, Fenway, South Boston, Kendall Square, the Financial District are all part of the boom. You name the neighborhood and we can name at least 5 major projects happening right now. Our economy is indeed booming. Kendall Square and the Seaport continue to be an epicenter for tech, life sciences and business. Wayfair continues to expand in Copley Square. GE has begun their move to Fort Point Channel. This list goes on and perhaps Amazon will be the next major company to have a headquarters in Boston. Oh, and let’s not forget about our world class hospitals, universities and arts and cultural organizations which continue to draw people to Boston from around the world. What’s not to love about Boston? Well, nothing, assuming you can afford to be here! Housing prices in nearly every sector continue to rise, but let’s talk about the short term housing sector in particular. Hotels are too expensive and beyond that they lack important amenities like kitchens, laundry and space to live! Long-term rentals aren’t practical. Why invest the time and money in furniture, moving expenses, big deposits, utility and cable set up, just for a few months? Neither makes sense, but often individuals and companies do not know where to turn to find affordable, professionally managed, safe and convenient short term rental options. There is a lot of information and resources available on the internet but it is often hard to sift through it all and make informed decisions. Craigslist can be unreliable (and sometimes downright shady), Airbnb can be an information overload and the national corporate housing providers carry prices that are just too high for most budgets. So where do you go from here? Well, to be candid, we think we’ve got the perfect solution at Short Term Rentals Boston for both individuals and businesses alike. We’re big enough and have enough units to service the largest corporations in Boston, yet we’re a small business at heart, with the personal touch and attention to detail that make it easy for individuals to stay with us too. We also know that everyone’s needs are different and one of the benefits of a company of our size is that we can flexible!

Some of the benefits of staying in a short-term rental that you may not know are:

  1. It’s cheaper – much cheaper actually. Not only do you pay less per night than you would at a hotel but you get the added savings of being able to prepare your own meals, do your own laundry and entertain yourself and others within an STR, as opposed to be forced to go out all the time. As your group grows, so do the savings. Short-term rentals are a far more cost-effective option for large groups or families traveling together.
  2. It’s more comfortable – You get additional space and important amenities that make it feel like your home away from home (kitchen, laundry, home furnishings, cable TV and wi-fi).
  3. It’s more personal – Instead of staying on high-traffic streets you can choose locations in residential neighborhoods that fit your style, your budget and that are most convenient for you.

And if you do decide that a short-term rental is right for you, the benefits of working with us at STRB are many:

  1. The best value! Our company is vertically integrated – We own our units, we professionally manage them ourselves and we do all the leasing and marketing in-house too. That means we have lower overhead than our competitors and we pass those savings on to our customers.
  2. We’re highly reviewed and regarded – We live in the information era, where you can read everything you need and want to know about a company with just a few clicks of the button. Good thing for us we’re good at what we do!
  3. We have a wide selection of units – one for every person and every budget in fact. We also have high enough unit count to accommodate large groups, including corporate groups.
  4. We’re flexible – We offer nightly, weekly and monthly lengths of stay. We can basically tailor our services to your needs (within reason, of course 😉 ).
  5. We’re responsive – We’re local and we offer 24-hour emergency response.

So now you have to ask yourself, if you or someone you know is coming to Boston for weeks or months, why would you stay anywhere other than in a short-term rental by STRB???

Check out our website for more information and let us know how we can make your next trip to Boston an easier, more comfortable one.

STRB Collaborates with Local Organizations and Businesses

At Short Term Rentals Boston (STRB), we strive to be a leader in  the furnished and short-term housing industry here in Boston. In concert with what we do (furnished housing), we place a high value on, among other things, social responsibility and community-minded initiatives. One example of how our business and our values intersect is in promoting economic development in the city of Boston. As a company we are able to further this cause by providing local organizations and businesses with access to much needed furnished housing. Whether we’re hosting members of a multi-national fellowship program in our Quarters™ properties or providing cost-effective housing solutions for start-ups and emerging businesses, we’re proud of the role we play a variety of organizations and clients.

A recent example of this is STRB’s relationship with Our Generation Speaks (OGS): “a fellowship program and incubator where emerging leaders create high-impact ventures. The fellowship establishes a set of innovative enterprises that generate significant social and economic value, while creating a cohort of young Israeli and Palestinian community leaders who cooperate across ethnic and political lines to build shared prosperity within the region.” OGS came to us with the hurdle of providing affordable housing for its fellows, all while being in close proximity to the Mass Challenge offices in Boston’s vibrant and rapidly-developing Seaport District. By working hand-in-hand with the program leaders at OGS, we were able to give their fellows comfortable, well-equipped accommodations, a commute within walking-distance and a taste of what it’s like to live and work in Boston. Here’s what they had to say on their experience:

Scott and the STRB team were fantastic! They made housing 25 summer fellows an absolute breeze. They were able and happy to accommodate all of our special requests, and they were incredibly diligent in prepping and cleaning the units upon our arrival. Our guests had a great stay and our team enjoyed working with STRB from day one to check-out.”

STRB Recommendations: Boston Winery

The Boston Winery is a hidden gem in Dorchester Massachusetts. It is located beside Venezia restaurant in a Civil-War era building. The winery is run by Ralph Bruno and his goal is to “share his knowledge of making superb wine and to teach others how to enjoy this experience.” Every Saturday afternoon the winery is open to tastings and tours. For only $10 you receive 3 tokens that can be exchanged for glasses of wine, and a tour of their facilities.

Boston Winery Door

Tours run every half hour, you can arrive anytime between 1pm and 6pm . The winery is not big so the tour is only about 10 minutes. If your tour guide asks any questions make sure to be the first to answer! The guides hand out extra tokens throughout the tour. They do a great job of explaining their process of creating the wine.  Contrary to popular belief they do not crush the grapes with their feet.

Boston Winery Barrells

The tasting room offers about 5 different wines. I went with a friend so between both of our tokens we tasted them all. Red, white, and sparkling are included in each tasting, chances are they will have a wine for you.  Handmade pizzas are available in the tasting rooms. Make sure to be the first to grab a slice, the pizza is for everyone participating in the tasting.

Boston Winery Drinks

The winery is only a short drive away from many of our properties. If you are staying with us on a Saturday make sure to stop by, and let us know what wine you tasted! I highly recommend the Sparkling Brachetto and The Black Dog Cabernet Sauvignon.

STRB Restaurant Pick Of The Week: Grille 705

While on vacation it isn’t always reasonable to sit down for long meals. Sometimes you need a quick bite to eat before starting your day. That is why we recommend Grille 705. It is a go-to for the locals in the South End. The best characteristic about this restaurant is that the food is affordable. You won’t have the break the bank for a great meal. The location is prime, right on the corner of Massachusetts and Harrison Avenue. Many of our properties in the South End are only a 10 minute walk away. Our office on Washington Street is about 2 blocks away. You can find a couple STRB employees stopping by Grille 705 during our lunch breaks.

Grille 705 Outside

Grille 705 has breakfast served all day long, so if you aren’t an early riser you can still get some pancakes and bacon when you wake up. Their omelets and french toast are any breakfast lovers dream. If you order french toast there are 6 different kinds of toppings to choose from, personally I like the blueberry. As for lunch I tend to go for the chicken wraps and sandwiches, but they also have hamburgers and pasta. Last time I ordered the Ranchero Chicken Wrap with french fries and a side Greek Salad. I was finished in about 15 minutes, the food was great! A cool option they offer is ordering online. So you can go to their website, pick out what you want, pay, and then go pick it up in 15 minutes or less.Grille 705 Chicken Wrap

Grille 705 is one the best diner’s in Boston’s South End. We recommend this spot to our guests because it is affordable and has an eclectic menu. If you are staying at our East Springfield or Concord Square apartments Grille 705 is only a 10 minute walk away. Make sure to look up their hours before you head over, on certain weekends they close at 4pm. Check it out the next time you are in Boston and let us know what you ordered!

STRB Restaurant Pick Of The Week: Cafe Madeline

cafe madeline logo 2

Finding the perfect coffee shop is a challenge, especially when you are in a new town. If you are staying with us in Boston’s South End you can find a great cup of coffee and pastry at Cafe Madeline. Around town they are known for their delectable French pastries and baked goods. Their cafe includes a window into their kitchen where you can see how all the goodies are made. Cafe Madeline has become one of the favorite spots for us at STRB.

cafe food

Whenever I have a craving for sweets at work, Cafe Madeline is just a short walk away from our office. They have a wide variety of French style pastries, drinks and sandwiches. My favorite treat is their croissant. It is so flaky and warm, great for these cold January days. If you enjoy a hot chocolate their’s is a must try. Their menu has a lot of French type foods and drinks so make sure to read before you buy!

Cafe Madeline outsideWhether you need a cup of coffee in the morning or a sandwich on the go, Cafe Madeline is a great option. Their menu is on the more expensive side, so make sure you have some extra change in your pocket! If you happen to stop by let us know what you thought!

STRB Restaurant Pick of the Week: 5 Horses Tavern

While staying at one of our properties we want our guests to feel like a local. So our team is putting together a weekly blog to showcase some of the great restaurants in the area. We hope this helps with planning your trip and finding great places to eat!

5 Horses Tavern Outside

The South End of Boston is rich with eclectic restaurants and bars. Each one has their own vibe and a menu full of options that can please anyone. One of the favorites of STRB employees is 5 Horses Tavern on Columbus Ave. They describe their menu as “modern American comfort food” and they live up to that promise. Many of their dishes have ingredients sourced from local farms, and they even have multiple vegetarian dishes. The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere and is the perfect spot to hang your hat and mittens when looking to escape a chilly Boston winter. Their brick walls and comfy leather booths make you feel right at home.

5 Horses Tavern 2

This is the place for any craft beer fan. On draft are classics like Sam Adams and Harpoon, but the micro-brews are the reason to drink at 5 Horses Tavern. Their beer menu includes local drafts from Massachusetts breweries like Fort Hill, Trillium and Lord Hobo. If you aren’t into beers there is a full wine and cocktail menu that is sure to quench anyone’s thirst.

Our operations manager Scott recently stopped by and enjoyed some great beer from Trillium, along with some personal pizzas and crispy tater tots. Yes, we’re raving about tater tots, but these ones are awesome. Tots at 5 Horses also come loaded with cheese and shaved steak, but Scott tends to be more of a purist and opts for the base model.

5 Horses Tavern

The restaurant is conveniently right across the street from our property at 44 Concord Square, and is also a short walk from any of our South End apartments. Check out 5 Horses Tavern the next time you stay with STRB.
